Nokia X71 with hole-punch camera to launch on April 2; might debut globally as Nokia 8.1 Plus
HMD Global has started sending out press invites for an event in Taiwan on April 2, where the company will launch a new smartphone–the Nokia X71. The Nokia X71 would be the company’s first smartphone to feature a punch-hole display. The Finland-based company will unveil the Nokia X71 at the event along with Nokia 9 PureView that will be making its debut in Taiwan the same day. The press invite suggests that the Nokia X71 will feature a 48-megapixel camera. Some reports suggest that the Nokia X71 could be launched as the Nokia 8.1 Plus in the international market.
HMD Global’s press invite for the launch of the Nokia X71 reveals that the smartphone will feature a 48-megapixel primary rear camera and a secondary lens with 120-degree Field of View (FoV) for taking wide-angle photos. However, the primary feature of the Nokia X71 will be the edge-to-edge screen with a punch-hole accommodating front camera, just like the Samsung Galaxy S10. Nokia X71 will likely be the first smartphone from Nokia to feature a punch-hole camera. HMD Global will also be launching the penta-camera smartphone Nokia 9 PureView at the event. The company’s launch invite for the Nokia X71 was shared by Taiwan-based Sogi.
According to a report by MySmartPrice, the Nokia X71 could launch globally as the Nokia 8.1 Plus. Notably, HMD Global has launched its devices in China under the X-series, which later made their way to the global market under a different name. For instance, Nokia X6 was launched outside China as Nokia 6.1 PlusHowever, there might be a slight difference between the Nokia X71 and the Nokia 8.1 Plus. Nokia X71 is expected to feature a triple rear camera setup, while the Nokia 8.1 Plus will reportedly pack dual-rear camera setup with Zeiss optics.
Earlier this year, alleged press renders and a 30-degree video of the Nokia 8.1 Plus surfaced online, revealing a hole-punch display and a dual-rear camera setup. The display on the device is said to be 6.2-inches in size, however, there is no concrete information on the resolution or aspect ratio. It will reportedly be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, but there is no word on the rest of specifications of the device.
